All about me and my stitchery!

A portrait of Alisia, the owner of Daydream Stitchery

Hi there, and welcome!

I’m Alisia, and this section is all about me and my stitchery – who I am, what I love, and how this little corner of creativity came to life.

I’m a mum, wife, maker, and lifelong lover of all things creative. I’m a little bit quirky, a little bit hippy, and a whole lot of fun! My days are often filled with family, gardening, painting, and of course, stitching. Embroidery and cross stitch have always been a way for me to slow down, connect with something meaningful, and create pieces that bring beauty and comfort into daily life. In a world that moves so quickly, stitching gives me a moment to breathe, refocus, and pour my energy into something intentional and calming.

How did Daydream Stitchery start?

This shop grew out of my passion for designing patterns that are not only beautiful to look at, but also a joy to stitch. I’ve always believed that creativity shouldn’t feel overwhelming or out of reach. A good pattern should feel inviting – something that excites you when you print it out or open the file, something that’s clear enough to follow without stress, and something that leaves you feeling proud when you place that final stitch. Whether you’re brand new to cross stitch or have years of experience, I create my designs with you in mind. I remember how it felt to be a beginner, unsure of whether I was stitching “correctly,” and I carry that empathy into every design. I want you to feel supported, encouraged, and confident as you create.

This shop is also my way of connecting with people who love creating just as much as I do. There’s something incredibly special about knowing that the designs I create in my little studio end up in homes all across the world, becoming part of someone else’s creative journey. Every stitcher brings their own personality, flair, and story to a design. I absolutely adore seeing how people interpret the patterns. Some choose bold colours, some choose muted tones, some frame them in hoops, and others turn them into gifts or keepsakes. Each finished piece is one-of-a-kind, because it holds your time, your energy, your choices, and your creativity.

My inspiration…

I draw inspiration from many places – my family, my faith, the natural world around me. The little everyday moments that often go unnoticed unless we pause long enough to appreciate them. My children, for example, are constant sources of colour, spontaneity, and wonder. They remind me that creativity doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful. My wife brings so much steadiness and joy into my world, and many of my designs reflect the sense of safety and warmth that our family brings me.

Nature is another well of inspiration I find myself returning to again and again. I love the quiet beauty in plants, birds, butterflies, and the Australian landscape. There’s something healing about stitching motifs drawn from nature. Perhaps because nature itself is a quiet teacher of patience, growth, and resilience. Even the smallest leaf or flower can hold an entire story when you slow down enough to notice it.

My faith also plays a role in my work. For me, stitching is often a quiet act of devotion, a moment to pray, reflect, or simply be still. I love creating faith-inspired pieces because they offer a way to merge creativity with spiritual meaning. Sometimes it’s a simple cross, sometimes a verse, sometimes an image with symbolic meaning. Whatever the form, these designs feel like small reminders of peace, hope, and guidance – stitches that speak to the heart as much as to the hands.

My creative process

Creating patterns isn’t just about the artwork for me. It’s about building a welcoming space for stitchers of all levels. I want you to feel excited to start a new project, supported as you stitch, and proud when you finish. I spend a lot of time refining details, testing patterns, and making sure instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is frustrating when a pattern is beautiful but confusing and unclear. My aim is to remove those barriers so you can relax and enjoy the experience of making something lovely.

When I sit down to design, I always imagine the person who might be stitching it. Are they new and nervous? Experienced and ready for a challenge? Are they stitching as a way to unwind at the end of a long day? Or making a gift for someone they love? Keeping these questions in mind helps me create patterns that feel thoughtful, approachable, and enjoyable to stitch from beginning to end.

Where to from here?

The truth is, stitching is so much more than a hobby to me. It’s part of how I process the world, how I express myself, and how I anchor my days when life feels busy or chaotic. Some of my favourite pieces were created during moments when I needed a break or to ground myself again. That’s the beauty of hand embroidery and cross stitch – they give you space. Space to think and to rest. Space to create something that didn’t exist before. Space to be present. My hope is that when you pick up one of my patterns, you feel that same sense of calm and possibility.

Thank you so much for visiting my shop and supporting creativity. It truly means the world to me that you’re here. Whether you’re browsing, starting your first project, or returning for something new, I’m incredibly grateful. Every purchase, every message, every finished photo you share brings so much joy into this journey. I hope that my patterns become part of your moments of rest, joy, and expression. I hope they give you space to slow down, to breathe, and to stitch something that feels truly yours. And most of all, I hope you find inspiration, comfort, and delight in every stitch.

Thank you for being here, and happy stitching!
